EQUAL Ireland-St. Patrick’s Day Parade, Galway City – Jim Larkin & the 1913 Lockout

EQUAL Ireland will for the first time this year be entering a float in Galway City’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

Given this is the 100th Anniversary of the 1913 Lockout, which was heavily supported by Galway Dockers, our concept is to use the figure of the famous Irish Labour Leader, Jim Larkin, who had a life time commitment to the education of working people, as the vehicle for bringing attention to the core importance of education in today’s world. A replica of the Jim Larkin Statue and plinth in Dublin will be recreated and placed aboard a moving platform. The statue will come alive with the powerful voice of ‘Jim Larkin’ calling on people to engage with education for self-development, employment, active citizenship and the achievement of equality.
